Van Nistelrooy could move in July

Written by Sawyer | 26th June 2006 | 0 Comment(s)

Chelsea and Tottenham will have a vested interest in the forthcoming Presidential election at Real Madrid on July 2nd, and they won't be the only clubs who get involved in the expected transfer merry-go-round.

Directly or indirectly Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Juventus, AC Milan and Internazionale will also have their eyes firmly trained on the event which could culminate in a scramble for some of Europe's top stars.

Initially, Roberto Carlos would appear to be destined for Chelsea if reports from Spain are correct, but the Brazilian has been told nothing will happen until the new President of Real has been confirmed and that man then indicates which players he wants to keep and which to let go.

Assuming Carlos does arrive at Stamford Bridge it is likely to prompt Martin Jol to try and secure the services of England's understudy left-back Wayne Bridge as he looks to build on Tottenham's Uefa Cup qualification.

It will not be beyond the realms of possibility that Manchester United could be interested in Thomas Gravesen among others, whether they sign Tottenham's Michael Carrick or not, and conversely Real could also make a play for out-of-favour striker Ruud van Nistelrooy.

The recent speculation that Cristiano Ronaldo is being courted by Real may not be to Alex Ferguson's liking, but he may be tempted to part with the talented winger if he could engineer the capture of one or two star players himself.

Rafa Benitez is liable to keep a close watch on the situation and he is a manager that will know more than most with regard to the talents of the players that may be available.

Ronaldo, Julio Baptista and Antonio Cassano could be among the players that are released, but David Beckham would appear to be remaining at the Bernabeu in the immediate future.

Logically Real would be mad to lose the England Captain, who not only has been one of their better players, but also brings in so much merchandising revenue.

Re-uniting Beckham with van Nistelrooy would certainly make sense for Real as the pair flourished when at Old Trafford.

There is distinct possibility that Beckham could be looking forward to being joined by out-going England Coach Sven Goran Eriksson, which would appear to be the case should Arturo Baldasano become club president on July 2nd.

Baldasano is launching one of the five bids for the role of Madrid president and gave his opinion on Eriksson's future saying, ‘my team have spoken with Eriksson and he has given a commitment that if I win the election he will come and coach the team.'

‘He's an important coach with the right kind of characteristics to do well, and build a great team.'

However, should Juan Palacios win the election it would appear that Joaquin will join from Real Betis which would leave Beckham either assuming the Zidane role or possibly being surplus to requirements.

Aurelio Sanchez, Joaquin's father and agent, declared that the in-demand youngster would most likely join Real Madrid if Juan Palacios, who is in the running for the Real Madrid presidency, and is elected to the top post.

'If Palacios wins, the transfer would be possible. Any way, Joaquin believes that his time at Betis is coming to an end,' said Sanchez

'I think that an eventual separation could be positive both for the player and the club.'

The general consensus is that whoever becomes President it is likely that the ‘Galacticos' will be broken up, which would by in line with the wishes of Real's loyal servant Raul.

The nine-time European Cup winners will have their work cut-out as the Ronaldinho inspired Barcelona presently holds power in La Liga, and it will be interesting to see exactly how Real will go about competing with their great rivals.

The uncertainty that over-shadows Italian football at present could also see Juventus and others shelling themselves of many star players and along with those that leave Real, this summer could see an unprecedented amount of World stars changing clubs.

Internazionale will be left in a powerful position in Italy should Juve, Milan, Lazio and Fiorentina suffer the ultimate punishment over the present Italian scandal, but whatever happens there they are still likely to have one or two Real players on their wish-list.

Liverpool, Man United and Inter have all done business with Real in recent seasons so one would imagine relations between those clubs and the Spaniards are of a reasonably good level.

Arsenal set for striker change.
Saturday’s instalment of the Arsenal/Liverpool trilogy provided some cause for many to think that all was not well in the Arsenal camp as Nicklas Bendtner headed home, only to then celebrate alone with the fans as the rest of the players shunned their customary group frivolities at scoring. This summer could see Arsene Wenger shuffle his striking options?

Liverpool & Everton - Run-in Predictions
The fight for points and places at either end of the table will take much of the attention and once again we also have the added issue of Merseyside supremacy for the 4th Champions League spot, which could prove just as intriguing as the other battles.
