Man City - International set to sign
Written by Sawyer | 18th July 2006 | 1 Comment(s)
Manchester City are said to be closing in on the signing of Italian forward Bernardo Corradi, and the deal could be tied up today or tomorrow.
The player's registration is owned by Spanish outfit Valencia; however the Italian spent last season on-loan in Serie A at Parma, helping the club to a respectable mid-table finish.
Indeed, the Gialloblu were keen on keeping the former Lazio striker in their ranks this summer with another loan agreement, however Valencia are keen to sell and get the striker off their books.
City manager Stuart Pearce is said to have agreed a £1 million fee for the former Charlton and Middlesbrough target, who frustratingly never reproduced his Lazio form for Valencia.
Some were quite surprised that City let Bradley Wright-Phillips go to Southampton and Pearce seems to have turned to experience with Corradi having previously played for Italy.
City played some quite creative football last term, but struggled to convert some good opportunities when on top in matches and eventually had a bad run which saw them slip down the table.
The deal is expected to be tied up quite soon, with Valencia sporting director Amadeo Carboni in England to formalise the transfer of Asier Del Horno from Chelsea.
Del Horno never really looked that comfortable in English football and the seeds were sewn as early as the Community Shield match with Arsenal when a 32 year-old Robert Pires went past him purely on pace.
William Gallas, who eventually was the player's choice as left-back of the season, was drafted in to the position as the Spaniard struggled.

He could be half decent for us but as a season ticket holder, I would like to see some young players come into the squad instead of picking up 30+ year olds on minimum fees!
