At Griffin Park

I have to say I am not by birth or nature a Brentford fan. Rather VP had a small involvement yesterday towards Bees United. However I really enjoyed the game and here are my thoughts. Brentford in the first 15 had the play and kept the ball on the ground and were quite slick however they did not make the Bristol City keeper make a save and then conceded a soft goal.

That really was against the run of play and when the free kick from Bristol went in that was game over! I said to my friends that Brentford needed a quick goal after the re-start but BC had their tactics correct and for the first 15 min’s of the second half they played their best football. What one has to realise is that Brentford are missing some key players and are relying on youth whilst Bristol City are a huge side built like mountains.

I felt the penalty against Brentford was harsh and was pleased that the ref made the correct decision to only yellow card the goal keeper from which he saved the pen. After Brentford pulled one back they should have had a clear penalty when a BC defender clattered into a Brentford forward inside the 18 yard box but did not even get a free kick! 2-2 would then have brought the Brentford public to life that was quite all game and then who knows what the spring of youth would have brought!

One of the highlights for me was to see “mad dog” Brentford manager Martin Allen having to physically hold his tongue in check after the woeful display of the petty coat lineswomen (assistant referee!) who was about 10 miles behind the line of play throughout the second half.

Who decided that women must be imposed upon the laws of football and display their fish out of water role to a shocked public? One day soon mark my words their will be a FIFA rule that every team must have 1, then 2 then 3 female players in the side and Billy Smarts Circus will be the sponsor! So Brentford lost the game and I will say it is vital to get back to winning ways against Rotherham at home on Saturday.

In these times of rip-off ticket prices in the Premier league I will endorse that for £17 in the best seat at Griffin Park the football was honest and entertaining and great value for the money. Why do Premiership fans not adopt the strategy of course going to their own team’s home games and then boycotting the away fixtures where they get treated like cattle and fleeced for a match day ticket?

The cost of travel is half the price of the third world debt and the fan is at the mercy of Sky TV and the police for the kick off time. Far better I say to then give support to a lower league club: Man UTD = Bury / Arsenal = Orient (Or Tottenham (Joke) Chelsea = Brentford and Liverpool = Chester for example.

That way then the Premier club would have to lower the gate prices to encourage more home support and the non travelling away fan would give his money back to grass roots football. Where remember one can still stand, get closer to the action and hear the cries of the manager’s echo around the ground!

Liverpool, Tottenham + Chelsea stars highlight difficulties
Former stars from Liverpool, Tottenham and Chelsea took part in a rather interesting discussion on Wednesday evening prior to the Manchester United/Roma clash which will have only highlighted some problems when it comes to improving the standard of refereeing.

Arsenal set for striker change.
Saturday’s instalment of the Arsenal/Liverpool trilogy provided some cause for many to think that all was not well in the Arsenal camp as Nicklas Bendtner headed home, only to then celebrate alone with the fans as the rest of the players shunned their customary group frivolities at scoring. This summer could see Arsene Wenger shuffle his striking options?

Several players from Ajax and PSV Eindhoven will undoubtedly come under the microscope of the scouts when the top two clash this week with Klaas Jan Huntelaar clearly the most talked about.

Liverpool & Everton - Run-in Predictions
The fight for points and places at either end of the table will take much of the attention and once again we also have the added issue of Merseyside supremacy for the 4th Champions League spot, which could prove just as intriguing as the other battles.
