Man Utd - Striker won't be cheap

Written by Sawyer | 18th July 2006 | 0 Comment(s)

Out-of-favour Manchester Untied striker Ruud van Nistelrooy is eager to join Real Madrid, the Dutchman's agent said.

The 30-year-old has been linked with Real and Bayern Munich among others, but he fancies most the move to the Spanish capital.

''We know Madrid want him and he wants to play there,'' Rodger Linse, van Nistelrooy's agent, told Marca newspaper.

''Madrid is a dream for any footballer, including Ruud.''

Real are said to have offered £8 million for the prolific van Nistelrooy but United's asking price, according to sources, is at least £10 million but the Old Trafford club would like something more in the region of £15 million if they could get it.

Sir Alex Ferguson has insisted that, ‘'Real Madrid won't sign Ruud van Nistelrooy on the cheap,'' and the manager will also be buoyed by the news that financial restructuring by the Glaziers will save United £28 million a year, although the club must still pay £62 million a year in interest.

However, the new deal raises United's debt to £660 million, which is the largest ever to be endured by an English club.

Fabio Capello, Real's newly-appointed manager, had this to say about the Dutchman.

''Van Nistelrooy has done well at all the clubs he has played for," he told Spanish television station Antena 3.''

''He has scored a lot of goals and he is a striker who can succeed at Madrid.''

Arsenal set for striker change.
Saturday’s instalment of the Arsenal/Liverpool trilogy provided some cause for many to think that all was not well in the Arsenal camp as Nicklas Bendtner headed home, only to then celebrate alone with the fans as the rest of the players shunned their customary group frivolities at scoring. This summer could see Arsene Wenger shuffle his striking options?

Liverpool & Everton - Run-in Predictions
The fight for points and places at either end of the table will take much of the attention and once again we also have the added issue of Merseyside supremacy for the 4th Champions League spot, which could prove just as intriguing as the other battles.
