Chelsea - Star expects to retain place

Chelsea forward Didier Drogba has thrown down the challenge to new record signing Andriy Shevchenko.
Former Marseille hit-man Drogba has openly declared his expectation to be leading the Chelsea attack next season, despite the arrival of the £30 million Ukrainian.
“I've proven I'm a champion in the last two seasons so I don't see why I won't be leading the attack,” said the Ivory Coast international.
“There will obviously be a lot of competition now with the arrival of a new striker but that doesn't bother me – I've got two Premiership winners’ medals.”
Shevchenko has finally arrived in London after Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich chased the player for the best part of 3 years.
It is quite likely that Chelsea eventually got their man due to the Italian match fixing scandal, even though he signed before the trial began.
Milan president Silvio Berlusconi is godfather to Shevchenko’s son Jordan and knowing that AC would suffer some form of handicap the sensible decision was taken to obtain as much money as he could for his friend and star striker.
The official reason for the move was allegedly because Shevchenko wanted his child to learn English, but does that mean there are no schools in Italy that would teach the subject given that he could easily afford private tuition?
Jose Mourinho has generally preferred to play with one central striker and two wide players supporting alongside Frank Lampard. Unless this philosophy was to change it is difficult to envisage a situation where Shevchenko would not be that striker assuming he is fit.
Shevchenko scored 173 goals for Milan since joining in 1999, and is second on their all time scoring list to Gunnar Nordahl whose record stands at 221.
The question mark against Shevchenko will be how quickly he can adapt to a different League and culture at the age of 30, but considering his record in the toughest League for a striker to operate most would expect a stiff challenge to Thierry Henry for the ‘Golden Boot’.
