Chelsea to meet club over target

Written by Sawyer | 19th July 2006 | 0 Comment(s)

Juventus defender Gianluca Zambrotta prefers to join AC Milan, but would consider Chelsea if a move to Milan could not be arranged, the player's agent said.

The World Cup winner's agent Giuseppe Bonetto said, ‘'Zambrotta's wish is to stay in Italy but not at Juventus, and the only club that can afford the transfer and that have shown a keen interest is AC Milan.''

''Should Juve fail to reach an agreement with AC Milan then Zambrotta will consider the other alternatives.''

''An agent representing Chelsea will meet Juventus in the next few days. It will be down to Juventus to make the decisions and let us know what the options are once there is something concrete.''

He concluded, ''Chelsea are not the only ones interested in Zambrotta as Real Madrid and Barcelona are also keen to sign the player.''

Zambrotta has generally operated as a left-back and proved his worth during the World Cup switching to the right side of the defence.

The Juve star is most definitely one of the top four or five full-backs in the World and if he remains a right-back he could quite easily be the World's No.1 in that position.

Over the next couple of weeks the picture concerning the players involved at the clubs found guilty in the Italian match-fixing scandal will become a lot clearer.

By the time the appeals have been dealt with the players agents should have a few offers on the table for their respective clients, which should make the end of July/beginning of August quite a busy time.

Jose Mourinho has stated that he doesn't think Chelsea will change their squad too much before the start of the season, but that of course could just be a smokescreen to throw his immediate opponents off the scent.

Arsenal set for striker change.
Saturday’s instalment of the Arsenal/Liverpool trilogy provided some cause for many to think that all was not well in the Arsenal camp as Nicklas Bendtner headed home, only to then celebrate alone with the fans as the rest of the players shunned their customary group frivolities at scoring. This summer could see Arsene Wenger shuffle his striking options?

Liverpool & Everton - Run-in Predictions
The fight for points and places at either end of the table will take much of the attention and once again we also have the added issue of Merseyside supremacy for the 4th Champions League spot, which could prove just as intriguing as the other battles.
