Man Utd miss out on targets

Written by Sawyer | 20th July 2006 | 6 Comment(s)

Real Madrid has struck up an agreement with Juventus to buy Italy captain Fabio Cannavaro and Brazilian midfielder Emerson.

The fee being touted across media sources is about £13.7million for the pair, a remarkable price for two players who may not be around for many more seasons.

However, they certainly are players who still have plenty to offer any club in the world in the short term and may prove invaluable to a Madrid team that all too often have been susceptible in defence.

The pair will be set to sign two year deals at the Bernabeu after their summer holidays, with the additional option for a third year.

''Real Madrid can confirm it has reached an agreement with Juventus over the signing of Fabio Cannavaro and Emerson,'' read a club statement, which is hopefully more accurate than their recent van Nistelrooy claim.

''The agreement was finalised this Wednesday evening in Turin by sporting director Predrag Mijatovic.''

''The players are currently on holiday and will be presented at the Bernabeu after signing their respective contracts.''

It was believed Manchester United was also interested in some of the players that will depart Turin following the scandal and Sir Alex Ferguson will be disappointed to have been beaten on this occasion.

United are still believed to be on the trail of Fernando Torres, but he would only be a direct replacement for van Nistelrooy which still leaves Ferguson needing to strengthen other areas of the team.

Another f**kin journo in Lala land. So, Victor Predictor (Jesus Christ!) since when have United been after Canavaro and Emerson? Is it any wonder nobody has left a comment?

They have only agreed a fee for them, its all premature, look at them with the Ruud scenario, they thought they had got him, they didnt even get an offer accepted, i think Cannavaro and Emerson will have other offers or enquiries and will mull over them before signing anything at Real.

Former stars from Liverpool, Tottenham and Chelsea took part in a rather interesting discussion on Wednesday evening prior to the Manchester United/Roma clash which will have only highlighted some problems when it comes to improving the standard of refereeing.

Arsenal set for striker change.
Saturday’s instalment of the Arsenal/Liverpool trilogy provided some cause for many to think that all was not well in the Arsenal camp as Nicklas Bendtner headed home, only to then celebrate alone with the fans as the rest of the players shunned their customary group frivolities at scoring. This summer could see Arsene Wenger shuffle his striking options?

Liverpool & Everton - Run-in Predictions
The fight for points and places at either end of the table will take much of the attention and once again we also have the added issue of Merseyside supremacy for the 4th Champions League spot, which could prove just as intriguing as the other battles.
